Assisted Living Frequently Asked Questions

Our assisted living facility provides a distinct combination of individualized care, familiar neighborhood surroundings and professional expertise. Residents are assured ongoing wellness evaluations and personalized care that addresses their specific needs. Licensed compassionate team members assist with daily tasks as needed, and the many amenities and life-enriching activities are geared toward helping residents more easily enjoy what matters most to them.

It’s best to start with a physician’s assessment. Depending on your or your loved one’s situation, you can match needs to the right level of assistance. When help with daily tasks is needed — taking medicines, bathing, dressing, meals, transportation and housekeeping — assisted living may be the answer. Trained professionals provide support while helping preserve an individual’s independence.

The Marshes of Skidaway Island offers home care for independent living residents as well as a continuum of on-site care. Our assisted living, rehabilitation and skilled nursing provide round-the-clock care for individuals recovering from illness or injury, or those needing more long-term care or support.

Respite Care typically provides a short-term option that includes 24-hour nursing care for those who need a little extra help with their daily activities.

The goal is to give caregivers a much-needed break from their daily responsibilities, allowing them to rest, recharge, and attend to their own needs. Care can last from a few hours to several weeks, depending on the caregiver’s requirements and the availability of services.

One of the primary reasons for respite care is to help reduce caregiver burnout. Caring for a loved one full-time is a big responsibility. In fact, caregiver burnout is incredibly common. Family caregivers often find themselves overwhelmed, frustrated, and anxious. Over time, this can damage the caregiver’s own health.

Respite care is a great way to step back and take a breath. It can help you relax and lessen some of the symptoms of caregiver burnout. When you know your loved one is being cared for in a safe environment, even for a few hours up to a few weeks, it’s one less thing for you to juggle. That can make a significant difference in overall mental and physical well-being.
