Your elderly loved ones once took care of you, and then it seems as if suddenly the roles have reversed and you are now tasked with the daunting responsibility of paying it forward to them.

Here is the Savannah senior living communities message to the coping caregiver:

It's not easy.

In fact, this is extremely challenging. There are so many emotions involved, and it can be stressful to take on this new change. Caregivers often experience feelings of guilt because they do not believe they should find being a caregiver stressful, or because they are not devoting the amount of time they believe they ought to be either to their loved one they are caring for, or to their other life responsibilities (their own children, business, etc.).

It's exhausting.

Juggling your responsibilities is exhausting. Coping with your emotions is exhausting. Dealing with the daily stresses that come with caregiving is simply exhausting. There is not enough time in the day to manage all of your to do's. The pressure to be the best and make the best decision for your loved one can be overwhelming.

You are not alone.

There are nearly 40 million people in the U.S. serving as caregivers according to AARP's 2015 report. Though this is an intense struggle, you may find solace in knowing that millions of other people are going through similar changes and challenges.

You are important.

Your loved one is vastly important to you, and you are just as important to them. Taking care of yourself is necessary in being able to be your best for them. Take time for you. If you feel depressed or unable to cope with these changes, please seek the guidance of a counselor for additional support.

You have options.

You want your loved one to be taken care of, and have a high standard of living. You want them to stay active and stay sharp. Consider the active schedule of those in our Savannah senior living communities.
